The Losh 'n Horror Show

'The Losh 'n Horror Show' - a South African musical puppet comedy, was first produced in Johannesburg in 1997. It takes a satirical look at the issues of exile and emigration in the new world - as seen through the eyes of a Jewish and Zulu family living next door to each other.

It received rave reviews at the National Festival of the Arts in South Africa, 1998 and in Sydney, Australia in December 2002.

"South Africa's loss is Australia's gain. Brilliant puppeteer Gary Friedman has immigrated to this happier land; and could not be more welcome."

"Master puppeteer Gary Friedman's theatrically enchanting and visually adroit reading of the new South Africa is a fine example of the mysterious world behind the proscenium arch constantly springing surprises."

"In a marvel of Theatrical dexterity and making rich use of strong and simple images, Friedman pressures us to look at ourselves with a unpatronising truthfulness that will jolt many a conscience."

Terry Herbst, Eastern Province Herald, South Africa, 19 October 1998

"There are often theatrical gems that sneak up on us relatively unheralded. One such gem is Gary Friedman's superb puppet show 'The Losh 'n Horror Show'. Friedman kept his audience spellbound with his wooden figurines, which quicker assumed personalities, faster than Pinocchio."

Andre Erasmus, Port Elizabeth Express, South Africa, 7 October 1998
