Cabaret
'Silent Cabaret' was developed in 1987 in reaction to the censorship that prevailed during the apartheid era in South africa. It showed a man trying to read a newspaper to learn about what was happening in his world. The hand of authority first removes his paper, censors it, then deletes all the news, then gags him, blindfolds him until he reaches a state of unbearable frustration and hopelessness.
New cabaret material using various visual theatre and puppetry techniques is once again being explored for an Australian season of performances in 2003.
